The Island and accompanying AR exhibition at Festival Europeen du Film Fantastique de Strasbourg

The Island will be presented this September in competition at Festival Europeen du Film Fantastique de Strasbourg, between Sept 23rd and October 2nd. The 3 film screenings will be accompanied by the presentation of the AR spinoff In Search of Paradise, which will pe presented at Shadok throughout the festival, with the exhibition open between Wednesday and Saturday from 2 to 6.

Excerpt from the festival programme:

”Anca Damian, an award winner at the Festival in 2019, has skilfully appropriated Daniel Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe and made it her own, resulting in the lone traveller as he’s never been seen before. A psychedelic musical comedy, as luminous as it is nightmarish, and an accusatory political work.”

”The augmented reality exhibition In Search of Paradise is an immersion into the world of Anca Damian’s animated film The Island. The film is based on the play of the same name by the Surrealist poet Gellu Naum, which itself is a demystified version of Daniel Defoe’s navel Robinson Crusoe, published in 1719. Like her film, the exhibition highlights pressing contemporary issues, such as migration, the environment, alienation and dependence on technology. It also revisits a classic work in a way rarely seen before. Thanks to augmented reality, visitors will become active participants in the world depicted in the film”
