Our Culture Aparte Film | Art Film Company

Our Culture

Aparte Film was created as an art film company focused from the very beginning on discovering, developing and producing projects with unique artistic and creative visions that would bring worldwide audiences closer to profound, interesting themes and subjects.

The company’s portofolio is proof that it has succeeded up until now to deliver highly praised audiovisual works based on artistic and cultural cooperation with European countries, such as France, Poland and Belgium. The projects have also received extensive laurels on their distribution and festival itinerary. “Crulic – The Path to Beyond” (2011) received the Cristal Award at Annecy Film Festival, among other 35 international prizes, gathered more than 250 festival selections and was sold in over 15 territories, including Canada and South America. “The Magic Mountain” (2015) by Anca Damian received the gender equality Audentia Award from Eurimages, as well as other 11 international prizes. A significant success was also “Marona’s Fantastic Tale” (2019), with a nomination for Best Animation Film from the European Film Academy, and other important accolades like the best European Film for Children by EFCA or André Martin Prize in Annecy. “Marona” signed with distributors in US, China, Japan and Korea, among other 22 territories.

Aparte Film is by far the leader on the Romanian feature animation market, according to the statistic reports from the National Center of Cinematography. It is the only production company in Romania with constant and flourishing activity throughout the years: 4 animation features already completed and 2 currently in development, as well as 5 short films completed. For comparison, there has been only 1 other feature produced in Romania in the past years. It is also worth mentioning that Aparte Film is the only Romanian company to have almost yearly attendance at the Cartoon Movie event since 2014. In the 2021 edition, Aparte presented 2 feature animation projects (“The Island” and “Starseed”), as well as in Annecy Film Festival, where all the films were shown in official competition and several of them pitched. On the international market, the company is renowned for its unique stories and strong messages, paired with high quality animation, as well as its capacity to deliver within reasonable budgets.
